Print and scan box labels

Print a label with the stash number and a QR code for each box, set it up for your printer, and scan it with the app to open the item.

What you'll end up with

A label on every box showing the item's stash number (RCO-0091, say), its name and price, and a QR code. Point the Stashery app at the QR and that item opens, so you never have to hunt through the loft again.

Steps

  1. Open Settings from the menu under your name, then Labels (under Stash). Press + New profile.
  2. Give it a Name (the printer's name works well) and pick its Size from the list: common thermal sizes like 50 × 30 mm, address labels, 4×6 and Brother tape are all there, or choose Custom… and type the width and height. Set the DPI (203 for most thermal printers), the Margin, Orientation and Text size. Auto-fit makes the text as big as the label allows.
  3. Tick the Fields you want: name, cost, selling price, a photo, the Stashery item QR, the eBay listing QR, and more. Choose either stage tick-boxes or workshop stage (text): tick-boxes let one label last the item's whole time in the Workshop, so you never reprint. The Preview shows the label at its real size against your latest item.
  4. Press Create profile, then Set active. The active profile is the one every Print label button uses.
  5. Open an item and press Print label (top right; Workshop cards have one too). Choose Save PNG, Save PDF or Print.
  6. In the Stashery app, tap Scan and point the camera at the QR on the label. The item opens straight away.

What you'll see

The print panel shows the label as it will come out, with the stash number and the profile you're using. The bigger the label, the more fits: a photo and a second QR only appear on large labels, and cost and flags need a medium one or bigger.

From v0.8.0 (on Beta now), a profile can add a Dotted fold line a set distance from the bottom, for labels you fold over a box edge, and Print test label prints a ruler with a border and millimetre ticks. Any border edge that doesn't appear is where your printer clips: increase the margin, or fix the paper size in the printer's settings.

If something goes wrong

Print label sends me to Settings.
You don't have an active profile yet. Create one in Settings › Labels and press Set active.
Part of the label is cut off.
Increase the Margin in the profile, check the Size matches the labels in the printer, or try Text size: Auto-fit. From v0.8.0, Print test label shows exactly where your printer clips.
Scan isn't on the website.
The scanner needs a camera, so it only works in the Stashery app on your phone or tablet. On a computer, find the item by searching the Catalogue instead.
"That's the eBay QR on the label, not the Stashery one."
The label has both codes. Point the camera at the Stashery QR, or use the link it offers to open the eBay listing.
"That isn't a Stashery label."
The camera read a different QR code. Point it at the code on a Stashery box label.
